ثَوْبٌ - ج: ثِيابٌ، أَثْوابٌ. [ث و ب].

 

1."غَسَلَ ثَوْبَهُ": اللِّباسُ، أَيْ ما يَلْبَسُهُ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ كَتَّانٍ أَوْ صوفٍ وَغَيْرِهِ.

He washed his clothes

 

 "ثَوْبٌ ناعِمٌ" "ثِيابٌ جَديدَةٌ"

Fine clothes i.e. new clothes

 

"الْمَرْءُ بِآدابِهِ لا بِثِيابِهِ".(مثل).

A man is known by his manner not by his clothes.

 

2."تَعَلَّقَ بِأَثْوابِ اللَّهِ" : بِأَسْتارِ الكَعْبَةِ.

He held onto the cloth of God i.e. the cloth around the House of God.

 

3. "طَاهِرُ الثَّوْبِ": بَرِيءٌ مِنَ الْعَيْبِ، خَالٍ مِنْهُ.

Pure of cloth i.e. Free of bad behaviour.

 

 "نَبيلُ الرَّأْيِ بَعيدُ الْمَذْهَبِ في التَّنَزُّهِ، طاهِرُ الثَّوْبِ مِنَ الفَحْشاءِ" (الجاحظ).

Lit. Noble in thought, far from bad, pure of clothing from obscenity. i.e. noble and pure
